Windows XP Service Pack 1

Although it has yet to be announced on the Windows XP homepage, XP SP1 is available for download.

If you try to apply SP1 on a pirated XP, you'll probably end up looking at this.

The service pack is 133Mb in size and contains bugfixes, some new drivers and the ability to uninstall certain components from the system - like MSN Messenger.

Configure Win XP for multiple users

Microsoft have obviously understood the good bits on operating a computer on a daily basis as something other than root/administrator. You might also want to set up your XP computer with multiple accounts, so that each user is more or less cut off from each other.

You probably don't want the kids to accidentally wipe out your important stuff when making room for the latest in spyware or games.

Microsoft talks about Windows Installer 2.0

The Windows Installer development team will do a chat on Windows Installer 2.0 with anyone ho wishes to join in. The chat session will focus on improvements contained in version 2.0. Time and date is August 20, between 18 and 19 GMT.

Windows 2000 SP3 released (sort of)

WindowsWindows 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) is out, but Microsoft have yet to make a public statement or a web page on it. Until they're back from lunch (or whatever), it's available for download anyway. The link points directly to an .exe-file.

Update: The bulletin on SP3 is up on microsoft.com.

Windows 2000 SP3 delayed

WindowsMicrosoft originally had intended to release Windows 2000 SP3 on the 17th of July, but according to news at WinInfo, everything's been delayed somewhat.

WindowsAs pretty much everyone has understood by now, the Apple iPod is a seriously cool gadget. Not only does it hold obscene quantities of entertainment in the form of MP3-files, but it does not take forever and then some to transfer them from your desktop computer to the iPod.
