PsiWin 2.3.3 download

  View Printable Version
Psion PDAAfter the article on distributing PsiWin 2.3.3 on a network of locked down Windows 2000 Pro machines appeared on appdeploy.com, I've had some mails asking where 2.3.3 can be downloaded.

Go to www.psion.com/downloads/series5_index.asp and start downloading. You'll end up with a 25Mb exe-file after this. Be sure to uninstall whatever version you had from before - first.

Update: Seems Psion have changed things a little bit. Go to www.psion.com/mypsion and register (it's required). Proceed to the downloads section where you'll find PsiWin 2.3.3.

EPOC in the new Nokia 7650

  View Printable Version
Psion PDAIt might not have registered with you, but the new mobile phone from Nokia, the 7650, has EPOC for operating system. Since marketing droids needs to take home paychecks too, the system is also known under the name Symbian OS.

The new dual band phone has 4 MB RAM (Nokia calls this "dynamic memory"), a backlit 176x208 pixel color display, a built in camera, a joystick (!) and all sorts of connectivity. Check out the full specs at Nokia's web site. Also, see Nokia's flash demo of the phone for pictures from a bewildering number of angles.

And yes, according to rumors, you can talk into it too.

Psion PDA

While the 16Mb internal memory on the Psion 5mx holds silly amounts of data, you occasionally need to transport bigger files from point A to B, and that's why I went out and bought a 96Mb Compact Flash memory card from Taiwanese memory maker Apacer.

PsiLinux on Psion 5mx

Psion PDAThe PsiLinux project (formerly known as linux-7110) now has PsiLinux booting on the Psion 5mx. From the progress page:

"The project has come a great distance since the kernel was first booted mid-way through December 1998. That breakthrough lit the path for further development in much the same way that Linus Torvald's did when he got the kernel booting on Intel PCs.

Using PsiWin on a locked down Windows 2000 Professional installation is difficult. It needs rights all over the place. This is how I repacked and distributed it.

e-Book reader and AvantGo for EPOC32

  View Printable Version
Psion PDAWant a free e-book reader and AvantGo for your Psion EPOC32 machine? Mobipocket might have what you need. Get the zero-dough Mobipocket Reader, install it and start reading ebooks and enews. Apparently, there are over 900 books available in the Mobipocket format. Err..they are not free.

While there are no screenshots by any EPOC32 machine available, you can find some for cheesy Palms and annoying Pocket PCs here.

Oh, and they have no Douglas Adams titles.
