HFS - the HTTP File Server claims it is "the other way to share your files". Works on Windows (all 32-bit versions) and in Wine under Linux. So, file sharing via a web server, open source, free, guaranteed to contain no malware. Cool!

yaVDR is a Linux distribution focussed on Klaus Schmidingers Video Disk Recorder and based on Ubuntu 9.10 i386. Although yaVDR 0.1.x works quite well already, there are many things that are either buggy or don't work automatically yet. So we don't recommend it for productive usage in case you have no experiences in configuring VDR manually.

FreeBSD 7.3 was released today. From the release announcement: "This is the fourth release from the 7-STABLE branch which improves on the functionality of FreeBSD 7.2 and introduces a few new features. There will be one more release from this branch to allow future improvements to be made available in the 7-STABLE branch but at this point most developers are focused on 8-STABLE."

GrandPerspective is a small utility application for Mac OS X that graphically shows the disk usage within a file system. It can help you to manage your disk, as you can easily spot which files and folders take up the most space. It uses a so called tree map for visualisation. Each file is shown as a rectangle with an area proportional to the file's size. Files in the same folder appear together, but their placement is otherwise arbitrary. Very useful.

The P8TCH is a clever idea: a physical patch that you can attach to clothing or other things (velcro on the back). Each patch contains a unique QRCode, which is a unique URL on the p8t.ch domain, which you control - you can redirect it anywhere. Very cool!
