Test machine: the same old Dell Latitude D620 laptop. Intel Core 2 (T5500) cpu, 3 GB RAM, 1440x900 display, iwl3945 wireless. I have take out the hard drive (to avoid any accidents), so it only has the usb stick that I insert as storage.
I booted up a live image Bunsen Labs Hydrogen release (2016-07-10) for i386. It is based on Debian 8.5. Display resolution is correct, wireless works, web browsing works, audio and video (play a youtube video) works. For the keyboard, I had to resort to the command line. first install ibus
sudo apt-get install ibus
ibus-setupfrom a shell (or the Run dialog). ibus-setup is a gui, allowing me to add keyboard layouts. And you get a nice switcher in the panel. Bunsen Labs is very keyboard oriented - with a lot of shortcut keys "printed" on the main desktop.
