Psion unveils netpad

Psion PDAPsion teklogix unveiled its netpad friday. They didn't stop making new gadgets after all?

It's a rugged tablet-style PDA (see picture below and to the left) usable in either landscape or portrait mode. The netpad runs the EPOC operating system (called Symbian OS in the spec sheet), and is powered by a 206MHz Intel StrongARM SA-1110 with 16MB RAM. psion netpad
There's no keyboard on this thing, but a software keyboard is built into the system. Like the
netbook, it comes with rechargeable batteries promised to last eight hours. The backup cell is rechargeable as well.

For connectivity, you get the usual bundle of PsiWin 2.3. As with all other PDA's from Psion, the 640x240, 256 color screen is touch sensitive. The spec sheet says memory is expandable through an MMC card, which means an extra 64MB is maximum.

Psion says this new PDA was "specifically engineered to bridge the gap between heavy-duty, keyboard-equipped industrial computers and lightweight professional consumer devices". I can believe that. It complies with the standard IP67 which basically means it's both watertight (as opposed to waterproof) and dust-tight, as well as rugged enough to withstand a drop onto concrete from 1,5m.
